Archer Woods and Lithuanian National Cemetery..by Barek Halfhand

By Barek Halfhand

Archer Woods and Lithuanian National Cemetery are next to each other and based on the serendipity of my last visit to Lithuanian; I decided that it should be incorporated into Archer Woods as an inimitable combined site ...The beautiful Indian Summer weather served as a stark contrast to the last mid march, 4 am visit to Archer Woods ..I remember walking along the fence after parking at a nearby tavern and finding myself experiencing mixed emotions when confronted with the open cemetery gates during that damp, sleeting morning solo sojourn ...I remember the spit second of hesitation that led to a stiff legged march up the main driveway of the grounds that assuredly belied my intended feigned nonchalance...and after pausing for a few photos of the most immediate markers, I felt compelled to backtrack to the solitary building on the property that served as an makeshift office now but apparently was intended to hold visitation viewings in the past as a glimpse inside revealed a pedestal that looked to be designed to accommodate a coffin...the howling wind and penetrating cold seemed to hinder the suppression of my sensitivities that evening and as I became more and more agitated by my shields being compromised I remember that I really wanted to get some shots of the building before retreating to the comparative safety of the street ....as I approached the building and the sensation of increasing alarm the closer I came, there was a sudden loud banging noise like some one was pounding on then front door from within that darkened ominous structure....The mid day sun of today's visit did not quite evoke the consternation of that last late winter, early morning stroll along suburban Kean avenue, but I did find myself having to make a concerted effort to keep my sensitivities at bay in certain spots at both locations today.

ARCHER WOODS CEMETERY

Located just north of mysterious Archer Avenue, where many haunted sites can be found, including the home haunting ground of "Resurrection Mary", is the Archer Woods Cemetery.

The cemetery gates can be found along Kean Road and mark the entrance to this strange and unsettling site. Many local residents claim that this may be the most haunted of the immediate area's burial grounds.... and that means a lot considering that close by is the already mentioned, Resurrection Cemetery and St. James-Sag Cemetery.

The gates to Archer Woods Cemetery hide many secrets, including those of a mysterious woman in white who has been reported her by night-time passersby.

This cemetery is also haunted by a mysterious woman but this one is not trying to flag down a ride on Kean Road. She seems to be content staying inside the cemetery, although it is passing motorists who usually notice her. People who are sometimes driving along the road in front of the cemetery at night claim to have heard the sound of a sobbing woman from the other side of the gates. When they check, they report the apparition of a woman in a white dress, walking among the tombstones and crying loudly, her face covered by her hands.

Who this woman is and why she haunts here is a mystery....
