This delightful piece of Victorian architecture with ties to the Spiritualist movement is also one of San Diego's best known haunted houses.

The home was constructed in 1887 by Spiritualists for medium and musician Jesse Shepard and his partner, Lawrence Tonner. He only resided in the dwelling for two years before turning his back on his supernatural past to pursue a literary career. He died penniless in 1927 during his final concert performance.

Shepard's spirit is said to inhabit his former house. The music room has a history of paranormal activity and piano music has come from the locked room on more than one occasion. Another ghost, located in the tower, is believed to be Shepard's butler who allegedly committed suicide after the death of his wife.
